Services we offer
Mailing Lists
As a more robust and user-friendly alternative to the ListProc service offered by HITS, we provide JHU students with free mailing lists for organizations, discussion groups, etc. Our entire system, using GNU Mailman, is web-based and very simple to administer. You can customize an assortment of features including archives and digest mode. For more information, contact the Listmaster. To make your own list, send an email to admins@acm with this information:
- Your name and email address
- The long name (e.g., "Fun Lovers") and short name (e.g., "funlovers@acm.jhu.edu") of the list you want

Mirrors
The ACM also has a server dedicated to bring you faster access to various pieces of software and projects. Named astrolabe, this server is currently a complete mirror of Debian GNU/Linux, Ubuntu Linux, Gentoo Linux, and the Blastwave packages for Solaris, as well as DeCSS, a stylesheet stripper, among other things. If there are any other things we should be mirroring, please send a request and explanation to us. (We'll probably do it.)

Group Hosting
If you represent a student group you can get a user account for yourself to maintain your group's website. This account gives you web space scriptable with PHP, Python, Ruby, or Perl and access to GNU/Linux shells. You can also request MySQL and PostgreSQL databases. To request an account email us with your name, your group name and what you want it for.

Domains
We used to sell domain names, but not anymore. We do, however, still provide domains like [groupname].acm.jhu.edu for free. We can also still host your website like example.com or example.jhu.edu if you get the name elsewhere.
